Pocalay is a project started by a few guys who love football. Do you remember when you were younger, you could go to the nearest pitch and there would be a game you could join? We miss that.
Our goal in creating Pocalay is to make it easier for anyone who wants to play to find a game. The plan is to test the concept in the Oslo region in 2007, then expand geographically and also test the market for different sports/activities in 2008 and beyond.
The initiators of the Pocalay project are Rikard Wærø and Alexander Stensrud. Rikard and Alex played football and American football together when they were younger and both share a great enthusiasm for sports. However, Pocalay is not about a few individuals, it's about getting people out of their offices or houses and out there on the playing field together.
We invite anyone who wants to make a difference to be part of the Pocalay team. We currently have over 30 people contributing their time to Pocalay. If you are interested, you can even be rewarded with ownership in Pocalay by (1) contributing your time and energy to recruiting new players; (2) actively giving input on the development and improvement of the web site; and (3) organizing activities/tournaments for the players. If you want to be a part owner, you need to tell us about your interest, what you would like to do, and we will help you get started. Please let us know about your interest by emailing us at team@pocalay.com.
On the web site you can contribute and learn more about our coming plans by reading our "What's next" sections. Here you can read about plans for the web site and plans for activities to get more players to the site. All plans are open for comments and we will change the plans based on the players' input.
You can also discuss Pocalay, football and anything related on our Pocalay forums.
The technical development of the pocalay.com web site is done by Ethos Technologies.
Lastly, people always wonder if and how web sites intend to make money. Yes, Pocalay is a commercial site, with ambitions to make a profit. We intend to test different revenue models. The ones we're currently exploring are:
- Advertising
- Reselling practice times - schools, sports clubs and others who own facilities can use Pocalay to attract players or teams to open time slots
- Pay-per-play tournaments or events
- Apparel
- Premium services
If you have other ideas or input, we welcome your contribution. Discuss on the forums, comment throughout the site, participate in the games, we want to hear from you!
